What you can expect
Explore the world's second largest cave system with a visit to the García Caves. As you wander through the impressive caverns, discover incredible mineral formations and learn about the geological history of the place from a knowledgeable expert guide.
After pickup from your hotel, travel to the Cumbres de Monterrey National Park and take a cable car ride up El Fraile mountain, where the caves are located. Though discovered in 1843, the García Caves were formed between 50 and 60 million years ago and comprise the world's second largest cave system. With a depth of 345 feet (105 m) and a length of 2.2 miles (3.5 km), the caves offer plenty to explore.
Your expert guide leads you through the maze-like caverns, showing you amazing stalactites and stalagmites on the ceilings and floors. Also take note of the sea shells and snail shells embedded in the cave walls, thought to have been left there from when the caves were submerged during the prehistoric era. As you explore, your guide describes the geological background and history of the caves, enlightening you to their true natural wonders. After the caves, take some time to visit the town of García and learn about local lifestyles before heading back to your hotel.
