If you're a local of Detroit looking to add to your perspective of the world, then plan a trip to Beijing and prepare to witness the culture and history of a city that dates back over three millennia. When you fly from Detroit to Beijing, your flight will take about 14 hours. You can access Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) by taking a bus, calling a cab service or driving on Highway 94 and Interstate 275.
One of the most famous landmarks worldwide is the Great Wall of China, and while in Beijing, you can experience the Mutianyu section of the structure. For a closer look into China's expansive history, visitors can stop by the Forbidden City, a palace turned museum. Northwest of the Forbidden City, there is Beihai Park, a large, public Chinese garden that offers visitors the chance to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Temple of Heaven, a complex of religious buildings, also has much to offer in terms of architecture.
When you fly from Detroit to Beijing, be aware that the bus system present in the city may be difficult for those who do not speak Mandarin, and cabs can be expensive. Therefore, it is recommended that you use the subway to get to most of your destinations. If you're in Beijing in late February, keep an eye out for the vibrant Beijing Changdian Temple Fair.
