Most people visit the Dominican Republic for its stunning beaches, but visitors are also well placed to explore the capital city, Santa Domingo.
In the capital city, you can wander around the old Colonial Zone, packed with architecture and buildings dating back to the time of Columbus. The Ozama Fort and the cathedral are particularly worth a visit. The other zone tourists head for is the waterfront Malecon, where you'll find carriage rides and upmarket eateries like Adrian Tropical.
At Boca Chica, the beach is the main attraction, and the coral reef waters provide safe, gorgeous swimming opportunities.
Those who fly into Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) will be around 30 minutes from Santa Domingo, and only a couple of miles away from the beach resort of Boca Chica. It's an easy taxi ride from the airport, although if you're booked into a hotel, many will provide free transfers.
Santa Domingo can be difficult for tourists to navigate, with street signage often being either confusing or missing altogether. Invest in a city map, and don't be afraid to ask for help.
To get the best insight into the fascinating Colonial City, hire one of the local guides you'll find in front of the cathedral.
Flight DL1839 (18FEB) I just want to say huge Thank you to the pilot. He provided the best services that my husband and I ever experienced. The pilot kept us with all updates during the flight with details and helpful information. It helped people felt comfortable and safe. The rest of the crew were nice and professional. Thank you!
good pilots, very very smooth landing
That's so wonderful
Everything excellent ! Thank you !
Nice very nice
I love flying with American Airlines because they take care of their passengers.
Back to basics. I like. Got us to destination early.
Loved the DirectTV entertainment system!!!
There should be bigger seats for people that are overweight. I know they need to travel as well but when the airline places them in a standard seat next to you the flight experience is terrible. I would go so far as to say it is a flight risk in the case of an emergency situation to have a person sitting somewhere that they can hardly get in or out of. When airlines do this they are putting lives in danger. The same way you have policies for pets and rules for the luggage size, you should implement rules for where people of a greater size can sit down. This is not only for comfort. It could be a life-or-death situation in case of an emergency evacuation. Someone needs to be held responsible.
Empathia was very nice and helpful throughout the flight!
