Fly to Lynden Pindling International Airport

Nassau itself is home to more than 80% of the population of the Bahamas, but remains relatively unspoilt. Most tourists spend only the briefest time in Nassau itself, if at all, but the city does have some interesting sights.

Bay Street, the main shopping street, has a lot of jewelry shops, while nearby the old town contains the pink parliament building.

Kids and adults alike will enjoy the interactive experiences as the Pirate Museum. While in Nassau, get a taste of the real Bahamas in Potters' Cay, a fish market located near the Paradise Island bridge. Here you can find authentic dishes such as conch fritters, and a whole lot of local color.

Getting around

Flights into Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) are the gateway to the Bahamas. The airport lies close to the capital, Nassau, and from here you can make your way to the Bahamian destination of your choice.

The city is 10 miles from the airport, but there is no public transportation. Instead, you'll need to take a taxi, and the fixed fare list for these is on display at the airport.

Hints and tips

US currency is accepted universally, but be prepared to haggle, especially in Straw Market, which is a good place to look for souvenirs.
