Some staff is not co-operative at breakfast section

The hotel is good the location is excellent the breakfast can be improved Stuff is is good.

Great experience. Spend the extra to get a canal balcony. Was very pleased with the accommodations, staff and location. Just needed a few extra electrical plug-ins though....

I chose this hotel because it was near to a conference I was attending. I had no expectations and just booked for convenience. I was, however, VERY impressed with the hotel. It is in a charming building which has been delightfully renovated in Venetian style (the bathrooms are very modern though). The staff was wonderful. The breakfast was also very good. Another plus was that the hotel was quiet and it was also spotlessly clean. Its location is also very good since it is close to a lot of the tourist sights and museums and a 5 minute walk to public transportation (Vaporetto). I was quite delighted with my choice and would certainly recommend it highly.

We adored this place and would definitely go back. It's in an excellent location with true European charm. We were in Venice with three other couples. Our hotel was, by far, the best value.

Perfect place for us. Slightly outside of the crowds, but easily walkable to the main places. Our room in the annex was perfect for us.

This is not a luxury hotel, like the Gritti Palace, but a simple, clean, comfortable, and very friendly hotel in a real Venetian neighbourhood, yet extremely convenient for the Accademia, Salute, traghetto to San Marco, and at least three vaporetto stops. We've travelled to Venice many times and we've even stayed at the Gritti, but we always end up coming back to Hotel American because we prefer it. The location can't be beat, very quiet, away from the terrible crowds around San Marco, with wonderful cafes and restaurants on the Zattere canal, and the hotel itself is on a small canal so you can take a water taxi to and from the airport right to the door. The staff are always very friendly and helpful, but never obtrusive. We discovered three of four new luxury hotels while we were wandering around Venice this trip (Boscolo in Cannaregio, the Centurion near the Salute, the Santa Marina in Castello), but however we looked at it, Hotel American always seemed a better choice. We've been coming here for 15 years, and will be coming back again in October or November.
