Straddling both California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of America’s most stunning natural spots. It was built around the eponymous Lake, which is both one of the deepest and highest-elevation freshwater alpine lakes in the country. All of this makes it perfect for traveling with your pet. Whether you arrive in winter and find the mountains are topped with snow, or the lake is sparkling under the summer sun, you and your pet are guaranteed a good time whatever the weather.
Take a dip in the cool, clear waters at one of the pet-friendly beaches surrounding the Lake. Not all of them are suitable for you and your pet, but the Coon Street ‘Dog Beach’ is your best bet for finding a fully pet friendly spot. Stunning Zephyr Cove and Zephyr Cove Beach are also dog friendly in parts, but please check which sections are suitable for you and your pet first.
The Truckee River Raft Company is a brilliant company that agrees pets are just as important as people. So, head out of Lake Tahoe to Truckee and take a three hour float down the river with your furry friend. If you are keen for some kayaking in the summer months, the Tahoe City Kayaks have specially made kayaks big enough to fit you both.
After all the exertions you and your pet will, no doubt, be ravenous. Luckily, there is a plethora of great eateries in the area keen to host you both for a bite to eat. The Meyers Downtown Cafe in South Lake Tahoe loves humans and their well-behaved pets, for example. Settle down here for a laid back bite after a long day out exploring.
