Clean and centrally located in a trendy area to most the sights.

Hi Folks- I've stayed at this property twice now and wanted to share my experience and hopefully offer some perspective when considering El Capitan Hotel as a place to lay your head when visiting San Francisco. First, let me tell you why I choose El Capitan. I just moved from San Francisco and need to come to town periodically for work. I could crash with friends etc...however this isn't always conducive for early mornings or needing some time to decompress alone. Enter El Capitan Hotel...this place has been a safe haven for me twice now when I needed this most. If you've ever been to San Francisco then you understand just how excessively costly it is. When I travel I need very little: - A clean room with a bed - Access to WiFi - Ability to close my door and be alone This establishment is seemingly run by a family which is so lovely.

There is only one bathroom per floor if you get a shared bathroom space. That wasn’t the problem, the smell of urine in the place because of the amount of urine on the floor in all of the bathrooms that never wax cleaned was horrible. Couldn’t shower for the same reason. Completely unsanitary and disgusting. I’ve stayed in hostels in third world countries MUCH cleaner than this place.

Bed was clean. Got a good night sleep. Its a city, expect city noise.

Pro- it’s convenient Con- I paid in advance for a one bedroom private bathroom and when I checked in they said they gave it away. The shared bathroom was so disgusting, I chose to shower at my gym. The toilet room smells like 💩. It’s dangerous and ghetto outside. Think about this, the staff hide behind bulletproof glass. Charging $250 potential damage for a $70 room that has no bathroom is ridiculous.

When I arrived my room smelt clean and it was. I had a private bathroom witch I would suggest getting. The staff constantly mopped the floors and kept the hotel clean. The hotel had on site laundry $1.50 for washing and drying. And an on-site kitchen. If your looking for a fancy hotel look else where. This is a very basic hotel in a convenient location to cafes shops, and the subway lines as well. They also charge $250 for a security deposit. My stay here was fine and I didn’t have any problems. If your a skateboarder it’s a perfect location because 3 up 3 down is a few blocks north on Mission street as well as Soma Skate park.

This hotel is not a place to take your family. It is in a very unsafe part of San Fran. When my mother and sister and I arrived at our hotel we say prostitutes on the street corner (one was visibly pregnant) as well as bums and junkies everywhere. There was human crap on the side walks and trash everywhere. All the businesses had bars over the doors and windows. There were bars on the entrance for El Capitan and you had to wait to be buzzed in by the office which wasn’t always easy to contact. We ended up getting a different hotel because we felt unsafe. There’s no way I would have gone out after dark. Also there is no safe place to park your car. Upon further research we found that there were many incidents where customers had been bitten badly by bed bugs. DO NOT STAY HERE. I usually stay in cheap places and I don’t need a lot out of my hotel room but I draw the line at safety and cleanliness.

I doubt you can’t find any cheaper deal than this. I suggest to book the room with the bathroom. The Mission area where this hotel is located is a working class neighbor. It’s great deal for authentic Mexican restaurant and bars.

This property is located in a dangerous neighborhood. The rooms, sheets, hallways, and bathrooms are disgustingly filthy. The rooms do not have their own bathrooms or showers, the bathrooms are one per hallway that accommodates one at a time are never maintained. There are stains of all sorts all over the bedsheets, towels etc. No air conditioning of any sort. There was a break in while I was checking in, 4 kids broke in through the roof door and were running around. A man came out with a weapon to scream them off. It did not work. The disappointing part was that Orbitz did not step up to help me cancel my reservation after I called in and report that I did not feel safe here. Orbitz did not come through when I really needed them. Very disappointing how such a successful company can allow such a property on their site, and when one of their customers does not feel safe, Orbitz does not step up to help.

DO NOT GO THERE THE ROOMS ARE NOT CLEAN THE SMELL NOT A GOOD PART OF TOWN

I liked the price and location. I just wish there was a designated smoking section so you're not just out on Mission Street at night when you need a smoke break.

The biggest issue was there was no shower. Not every room has a bathroom and they are not conveniently located for people

It was just fine. Clean enough, neighborhood not as terrible as other reviewers suggested. For the price, it was just fine.
