Enjoy breath-taking views of the Golden Gate bridge with a San Francisco hostel vacation

San Francisco is one of California’s most popular destinations. With highlights including Alcatraz island, the Golden Gate bridge and Lombard Street (the “Crookedest Street in the World") on your doorstep, a San Francisco hostel is not to be missed.

About San Francisco hostels

San Francisco's youth hostels go the extra mile for visitors, with bright and welcoming common rooms and games rooms for when it’s time to chill out. Many hostels come with handy amenities such as free Wi-Fi, cooking facilities, TVs and even access to swimming pools. If you’re unsure of anything on your stay, your hostel’s friendly staff should be able to lend a helping hand with your queries.

What to do in San Francisco

This unique hilly peninsula is lined with colorful Victorian houses, cable cars and miles of panoramic ocean harbor views. Take a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge for a fabulous view of the city, or explore some of the pretty “painted ladies” near your San Francisco hostel location. Take a boat trip over to the former prison on the island of Alcatraz for an exhilarating day out. At the end of your trip, why not unwind at PIER 39 for some of the freshest seafood in California.

Eating out

San Francisco is the home of bay shrimp, crusty sourdough and, of course, the Mission Burrito. If you’re a fan of Chinese food, head to the city’s Chinatown. This is the largest Chinese enclave outside of Asia, and houses some of the best wonton noodles and dumplings in the country. For something sweet, make your way to one of San Francisco’s Gold Rush era bakeries where crispy croissants and pretty poppy seed muffins delight the palate.

Shopping

Start your shopping experience at Union Square, where big-name brands such as Gucci, Moncler and Dior line the streets. For more department stores and quirky souvenir stores, take a look around downtown where you’ll find more independent boutiques. Alternatively, grab some vintage clothes at one of the city’s prolific flea markets and antique stalls.

Getting around

San Francisco may be known for its steep hills, but it is still easy to get around on foot. The rapid tram network is a delightful way to crisscross the city, or hop onto one of the world famous cable cars. You'll never have to travel far to reach your San Francisco hostel destination either; many of the city’s hostels conveniently located near transport networks.
