In the last few years, Omaha has really made strides towards becoming more pet-friendly for locals and visitors alike. Parks, restaurants, and even boutiques are more than welcoming to you and your four-legged companion.
Omaha has a ton of outdoor options for you both. The Gene Leahy Mall is a huge park right in the downtown area. Take a walk around the lagoon and stay for the outdoor concerts.
Bordering the Mall is the Heartland of America Park. It runs along the riverfront, and you can even take a gondola ride. Also, do not miss the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, which crosses the Missouri River and is a great place for overlooking Omaha’s skyline. If you have a dog, both the Hefflinger and Hanscom Dog Park are great places to let your pup run free and meet others dogs.
Once you are hungry, locally owned J’s on Jackson is a great place for the classics. Dante’s Ristorante Pizzeria specializes in Italian cuisine made from locally produced ingredients. Be sure to try its wood-fired Neapolitan pizza. The family owned Pizza West has a more casual culinary offering and a full bar. Petrow’s is another local favorite with over fifty years of history. Goldbergs in Dundee has delicious burgers and homemade desserts.
If you are in need of a drink, Barry’s O and Pageturners Lounge are both great neighborhood bars. Scriptown Brewing Company specializes in session-strength beer. Brickway Brewery and Distillery uses locally sourced ingredients, and Benson Brewery is located in a former early 1900’s movie theater and specializes in artisan food and house beers.
