Best time to take a trip to Grand Canyon

As with many vacation destinations, the Grand Canyon may be best when visited during the off-season. From October through May the crowds thin out significantly. Snow closes off the canyon during the winter to vehicle traffic, with access limited to hiking or skiing. The trails can be covered with snow or ice, and during the warmer month of April, visitors may experience high winds. If hiking doesn't suit your taste, in October and November you can enjoy the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art on the South Rim, an annual event featuring artists from around the country painting the scenery of the Grand Canyon.

Coronado Dining Room

The Coronado Dining Room is located in the Best Western Grand Canyon Squire Inn south of the park and specializes in tasty steaks in a formal atmosphere.

Desert View Snack Bar

This is a great place if you happen to be camping out at the Desert View Campground. Grab a sandwich or a burger for the trip to the Grand Canyon, or have the French toast and eggs for breakfast.

When you reach the bottom of the Grand Canyon, stop and enjoy a meal at the Phantom Ranch. Dinners consist of a vegetarian option, steak, or delicious beef stew.

South Kaibab Trail

Make your way down into the canyon while enjoying stunning views of the area using this easily traversed trail.

Grand Canyon South Rim

Enjoy views of the canyon from the canyon's South Rim. You'll also find accommodation and water stations.

Grand Canyon North Rim

The North Rim isn't as popular as the South Rim area, offering fewer amenities, but is also less crowded. The view is just as spectacular though, and shouldn't be missed.

Bright Angel Point

Take a hike up to Bright Angel Point for a beautiful view over the Bright Angel Canyon located in the Grand Canyon National Park. The trail begins near the North Rim Visitor Center.

Toroweap Point

Considered to be one of the best views over the Grand Canyon, Toroweap Point is nearly 3,000 feet above the canyon floor.

Bright Angel Trail

One of the easier paths down into the Grand Canyon, Bright Angel Trail is filled with beautiful views of the canyon on the way. There are several rest stops along the trail providing drinking water.

Hermit Trail

If you're an experienced hiker, you'll enjoy Hermit trail, an 8-mile trail leading to the Hermit Campground on the bottom of the canyon.

East Rim Drive

You can enjoy the Grand Canyon without hiking to the bottom by taking a scenic drive along the East Rim.

Lava Falls

Experience a challenging section of the Colorado River by rafting through Lava Falls.
