As Texas is so vast, its climate can vary significantly. In general, summers are hot and winters are mild. As temperatures in the state can easily hit 100˚F in July and August, many people prefer to book their flights to Texas in the shoulder seasons. From March to May and September to November, the weather is mostly warm and dry, offering the perfect conditions to explore the state’s attractions.

As well as being the largest airport in Texas, Dallas/Fort Worth International is one of the busiest air hubs in the US. A base for American Airlines, the airport offers non-stop services to a huge choice of cities across the US, as well as destinations around the world.
The second busiest airport in Texas is George Bush Intercontinental. Serving the city of Houston, it’s a major hub for United Airlines and a focus city for Spirit Airlines. The most popular destinations for passengers departing George Bush Intercontinental are Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth and Atlanta. Houston’s secondary airport, William P. Hobby, is another important air hub for the state of Texas.
Austin–Bergstrom International serves the state capital and surrounding area. Located just five miles from central Austin, the airport offers a wide choice of direct flights to destinations across the US.

Most major cities in Texas have good public transport systems. Austin, Dallas and Houston all have light rail networks while San Antonio operates a number of streetcar routes across the city. Buses and taxis are also available in all urban areas.
Long distance buses connect most cities in Texas, however you may find that renting a car is a faster and more comfortable way to travel around the state. If you’re not in a rush, the train can be a great way to get around. Two routes cross the state, giving you the chance to see a little more of Texas’ beautiful landscapes.
Austin
Although it’s the state capital, Austin can feel more like a small town. The city has a vibrant music scene with two major festivals held every year. When you’re not watching a local band, you can sample some of the city’s excellent restaurants, cool off by the busy Lady Bird Lake or explore Austin’s independent shops and boutiques.
Dallas
The location of one of the most infamous events in US history, Dallas is a must-see for anyone interested in the county’s recent past. Begin your visit with a trip to Dealey Plaza and the nearby Sixth Floor Museum to learn more about JFK and the events surrounding his assassination. You can also explore the expansive Bishop Arts District and the vibrant neighborhoods of Deep Ellum, Lower Greenville and Preston Hollow.
San Antonio
One of the most characterful cities in Texas, San Antonio is home to a number of great restaurants, a picturesque river walk and, of course, the historic Alamo. Explore the Pearl District or learn more about the city’s history in one of its many excellent museums.
