Atlanta, Georgia’s capital, stretches over a vast area that encompasses an urban city center, sprawling suburbs and a stunning surrounding of rivers and forests. There are a variety of things to do in Atlanta, such as visiting museums and doing fun activities in the center, driving around traditional American suburbs to really get a taste of the South, and hiking to picturesque waterfalls not far from the city. To really take in all the region has to offer, a car rental is the ideal option.
A culturally strong and historically vibrant city, Atlanta offers something for everybody. If you’re a history enthusiast, the museums of the city center comprehensively showcase the story of the region; for starters, try the Atlanta History Center with the Civil War Exhibit, the High Museum of Art, or the Fernbank Museum of Natural History. Of course, no trip to Atlanta would be complete without visiting the previous home and church of Martin Luther King, an iconic US American figure who fought for equality and civil rights.
If contemporary activities are more your thing, there’s a lot more to be explored in Atlanta. The city contains the largest aquarium in the Western Hemisphere (where you can dive or snorkel with whale sharks!), the fantastic Coca Cola World, and the CNN Center. If you’re into quirky attractions, check out the illustrious Krog Tunnel, which boasts an impressive amount of graffiti and is a famed photogenic spot within the city. Also, be sure not to miss a walk along the Atlanta Beltine; this network of parks and transit locations is the hub of the city’s community. Enjoy some of the live music as you experience the vibrancy of this Southern city. This is urban living at its finest!
It’s incredibly easy to escape the busy city center and enjoy some of the surrounding districts and countryside scenes with a rental car. A drive through the upmarket area of Buckhead showcases some iconic American residential architecture, with delightful detached houses that look like they’re straight out of a movie. If you’re craving something a bit more rural, there’s a variety of waterfall walks in close vicinity to the city. A superbly popular hike near Atlanta is the Amicalola Falls State Park, which is home to the tallest cascading waterfall in the South East and offers hikes of up to 8.5 miles.
After all of that exploring, you’ll be wanting some food! A haven for foodies, Atlanta is home to both popular chain restaurants and delicious independent eateries. For some more unique restaurants, check out Victory Sandwich, Café Sunflower, or Eclipse di Luna.
