One of the most historic cities in the south, Birmingham has lots of great pet-friendly hotels on offer as well as plenty of green spaces, outdoor patios, and pet-friendly attractions to keep your dog happy on its mini vacation.
The large outdoor patio at Rojo, a restaurant that offers a great mix of American and Mexican cuisine, happily accepts well-behaved dogs to join its patrons. Its great location across from the park means you can easily take your pooch for a run before or after you sit down to eat. If you are looking for a pet-friendly place to have a few drinks, then both Black Market Bar and the Good People Brewing Company are both great options. The latter is a firm favorite with locals. Not only is the ice-cream at Bruster's Real Ice Cream great for humans, but they also make a mean dog-friendly ice-cream. For this, they crumble up dog bones to use as sprinkles for their four-legged customers. The last shop is located near Birmingham Zoo and Birmingham Botanical Gardens which is perfect to combine.
If you are craving activity in nature, the city has great dog parks to let your pooch run around off-leash for a while. This includes Hoover Dog Park in the city or Remy’s Dog Park located at the nearby Red Mountain Park. The Market at Pepper Place, a beautiful outdoor food market selling fresh farm produce, welcomes dogs of all sizes with many vendors providing water bowls at their stalls for any thirsty pups. In case you love the great outdoors and are looking to explore the area more, a day at the beautiful Oak Mountain State Park is a must. Over here, your dog is just as welcome as you are, but he must be kept on a leash. Stick around for the sunset by the lake. It is a sight you will treasure for a long time.
